The heart of the Fair still centers on the things the original colonists started with - agriculture, produce, lots of food, flowers, friends and family, and an old-fashioned, good time that includes the AT&T Concert Series.
The giant cabbage contest tradition began in 1941, when the manager of the Alaska Railroad offered a $25 prize for the largest cabbage. Max Sherrod of the Valley took the prize with a 23 pounder. For more information click here: http://budurl.com/jw4w
